CHRISTINA HOBERG
Christina begins her second service with AmeriCorps at the start of the academic year. First, she worked on the Prospect Park Restoration Crew in Brooklyn; now she begins as the Coordinator of Lobo Gardens in Albuquerque NM. Her background includes organizing a womens’ group at Rio Grande Community Farms to connect mothers and children with each other and the soil.
A recent graduate from the University of New Mexico’s Geography Department, Christina hopes to develop Lobo Garden's partnerships with the greater Albuquerque community. An undervalued and misrepresented entity that has worked diligently for seven years for on-campus representation, Lobo Gardens receives their first AmeriCorps Vista, dedicated solely to the gardens, as a rare and valuable opportunity to move forward with their educational goals. Integrating understandings of agro-ecology, permaculture, and biodiversity is what Christina envisions and hopes to bring to the Garden’s overall make-up and class curriculum. Additionally, with an intimate understanding of how a university can grow into surrounding neighborhoods, she plans to invite community members to participate in the garden development that will erupt into harvest potlucks and shared abundance.
