Jazmyn Crosby
Jazmyn worked with the Social Media Workgroup and STEM Collaborative Center. In her time as the STEAM Event Coordinator she organized a podcast, hosted multiple art exhibits and gathered materials that would inspire future VISTA projects.
While working with STEAM New Mexico, Jazmyn thought what better way to share the organization’s message with a wide audience than through a podcast? “Departure,” the first STEAM NM podcast, was thus created. The show pulled from a variety of resources throughout Albuquerque to highlight the intersections of Art and Science while also showcasing local musicians. Departure ran two episodes, one on the Essence of Blood and the second on Mapping and Navigation.
Another significant, if lesser known, contribution of Jazmyn’s was to catalogue hundred’s of art and science organizations throughout New Mexico. This list would then be transformed by future VISTA Britney King into the New Mexico STAR Map to provide an organized catalogue of educational resources within the state. Some of her favorite memories working as an AmeriCorps VISTA involved organizing field trips to MeowWolf in Santa Fe through UNM’s STEM Collaborative Center. Working with STEAM New Mexico she says aligned well with her art practice by providing her institutional resources that informed her perceptions of the work she created. By working at the intersection of Science and Art, she felt more confident in engaging with science through her practice. After her year of service, Jazmyn was accepted to an MFA program at the School of Art Institute of Chicago.
