A recent graduate of the Interdisciplinary Film and Digital Media (IFDM) program at UNM, Isaiah holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on film production. Additionally, he has worked with the Social Media Workgroup for three years.
Isaiah will be working as an AmeriCorps VISTA with Tim Castillo from the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) School of Architecture and Planning. Their project encompasses the creation of a new makerspace in Silver City’s Plata Studios. This project will provide rural communities with access to tools and machinery. However, this is no ordinary makerspace. Due to the wide distribution of the Silver City community, the makerspace will travel in a “pod” or trailer that delivers this machinery to the people. The Plata Studios Project aims to stimulate the local economy by empowering the citizens of Silver City.
Isaiah sees the project goal aligning well with his duty as an AmeriCorps VISTA in its aim to mitigate the effects of poverty and provide equalizing resources. As a student over the summer of 2016, he worked with Tim Castillo and is now able to work with him again as a VISTA post-graduation. Similarly to how their work brings together the community in Silver City, this work brings partners together in Albuquerque to form partnerships of greater longevity. His current project is to organize the models and design plans for Plata Studios into a “look-book” that will clue people all over New Mexico into their cross-disciplinary proposals.
